You are looking in the wrong places… The answer is right there… at the end of your pompous, greedy noses… the answer to better mental health care, reductions in child/teenage suicide, less school exclusions, less overcrowding in prisons, less violent crime… (I can go on!!)
It’s actually very simple!
It’s all to do with giving a shit 💩(apologies for the language but it’s necessary 🤪!!) about other human beings!! It’s all to do with
RELATIONSHIPS and NURTURE!
It’s all to do with what is going on within our schools!
Change the system and EVERYTHING ELSE WILL FALL INTO PLACE!!
(Sorry.. shouting now! 🤦🏼♀️)
Ok… How do we do this?!
*Get rid of the exam factory system that is so damaging and utterly pointless.
*Allow schools to deliver creative, inclusive curriculums… no more teaching to the test!
*Allow children to develop at their own individual rate… Bin Progess 8 and all that 2 points every half term blah blah! Children are not robots they are individuals! Allow them to be that!
ONE SIZE DOES NOT FIT ALL!!
*Train teachers/professionals to focus on the importance of developing relationships within the classroom! Safety, nurture and relationships are the absolute key to learning, good mental health and individual development!
*create inclusive trauma sensitive classrooms!
*INCLUSION, INCLUSION, INCLUSION
(sorry.. shouting again! 😂) comfortable clothing, quiet spaces, noisy spaces, safe spaces, flexible timetables, sitting on the floor to work, sitting on a bean bag… standing up!! Outdoor learning!
*Teach LEARNING FOR LIFE not learning for exams!
*Teach children to put something back into their community. How can they change the world!? Develop Community relationships!
*Ban extrinsic shame based reward systems.. dojo’s (🤬🤬) reward charts etc and reward by praise for individual achievements, allow children to want to achieve to become better human beings not because someone gives them a dojo! Too many children punished for behaviour that is out of their control!
*An understanding that NO child is ‘naughty’ and that every behaviour is a reaction to something!
Trauma, anxiety… Solve the problem…solve the behaviour!
*Provide more vocational opportunities for teenagers! Get rid of those GCSES and A levels for those who don’t want academic qualifications and teach subjects that are real, skills based, life based lessons! What is this obsession with qualifications?!?!?!
There… simple really! I can see it and so can so many others so why can’t you?!
You just have to give a shit about our children rather than money, targets and power and everything else will fall into place!
A parent, child advocate and teacher who gives a shit!!
